Black smoke and loss of power- please help!

Good morning all,
I finally made the jump yeaterday and purchased a 55 freelancer td4. Absolutely love it, apart from:
When accelerating, I get a lot of black smoke coming from the exhaust. Although the revs appear fine, it struggles to pick up any speed and sometimes shakes (although it's about to stall- it doesn't though)

I've had a look under the bonnet this morning and it looks to be leaking oil- see pics attached. Also, the pipe to the left also has a decent amount of oil under it too...
If anyone has any info on this Id be really grateful!

Classic split turbo hose.


There is a right angled hose about 3" diameter held in place by two terry clips on the front right (facing from in front of the car) - of the engine.
If you feel around it you will probably find a huge gash.

New ones are less than 20 quid and take less than 5 minutes to fit. Better quality than stock are also available

If you carry on running no harm but lots more smoke and engine light on.

Its the blue hose here - this man has already put in a longer lifed version!
 
sounds like a turbo pipe fooked when you find which one replace with silicon . there is allways a film of oil in the turbo pipes so it could be just a loose clip. on the worst side it could be the first warning that turbo seals are on there way out.

If it suddenly starts to rev its balls off and wont turn of, fith gear stand on brake pop the clutch and stall it turbo seals will have gone and you will have saved yourself the price of a new engine
 
TBH I've blown two using stock LR parts = they do about 30k each time. But they are bloomin cheap

PS there will still be clouds of smoke after new hose fitted until you have burnt off the excess oil

Whilst cleaning the mess on the pipes I found the huge split in the turbo hose, as described.
Lenny1234, thank you for the detailed answer- split was on the left side but I've replaced all with (very attractive) blue pipes just to be sure, and now works fantastically!

Just the tailgate window to address now and it's good as new!
