hi

can I pick ur brains please

what would u expect a car to be left unstarted and the battery to have enough guts left in it to start the car in the winter time

I've got a unipart 75 ah 650 battery and will go flat after 5 days

It's only 18 months old and to be honest fed up and wish to invest in a new battery

may I ask are any of the halfords batteries any good please

don't mind spending 100 quid or so in order to get a decent battery

am I wrong in thinking that a battery should keep enough charge for around 14 days

just wish to get the best and most powerful battery I can in order i don't have to put an instant charger on it

there's no drain on the battery and the alternator etc are all working fine

thks again guys

Don't know about Halfords batteries, but I had this problem and went through two lesser quality batteries. So a couple of years ago I put a Bosch one on my Td4 and it's been excellent.

Got it from Euro parts.

My V6 would start fine, even if it was left for 6 weeks without use. If you don't have any current drain when sitting, then it sounds like the battery has a fault.

cheers guys for the heads up

made sure there was no drainage etc

it was fitted by the aa when I was with them and they fitted a petrol model first, then had to call them back out to put a diesel one in

fed up with it going flat so quick

will have a look at euro parts and the bosch ones

suppose the best idea is to get the largest ah and cranking amps that will go into the carrier

hopefully can get a decent one for around 100 quid

had the engine oil and filter done, along with a total antifreeze drain and refil with all new stuff, must be me as it sounds quieter and smoother

silocone hoses next , after the battery and think I may do it where the plastic section is removed, just got to cost it and work out what bits I need and sizes

one thing is to switch back to radio after using the cd player as this does drain slightly if left on cd

thks buddy

plugged in the hawkeye and went through all the readings and also no NTc faults came up to indicate the alternater etc was at fault

looks like the bosch ones seem about the best value for money

will measure the battery tray tommorow to ensure the new battery will fit

see a nice bosch one that's 85 ah with a cold crank of 700 for just under a 100 quid with a 3 year warranty

looks like this unipart one is a pile of crap

will prefer to go and pick one up as i see some companies can't send them via couriers which i quiet understand , but also want to find a company who will take my old battery for me and do the swap as I can't lift them due to there weight

may I ask are any of the halfords batteries any good please

My original battery lasted 9 years , I then brought a Halfords own brand 096 battery with 4 year guarantee , This died at just over 3 years but Halfords checked it and gave me a new one , This one is 2 years old now !

Halfords have battery deals at the moment with £12 off on the 096 battery so it's £85 Halfords | Halfords Calcium Battery HCB096 - 4 Yr Guarantee

They charge £10 to change battery .

BTW I got £8 from a scrapyard for my old battery !

Look at Battery Megastore on line, good value and reliable, a 135AH 1000CCA battery for a P38 is £98 delivered. Had mine 4 years no problem. Lots of battery failures these days, Halfrauds do not come out well.
The other thing you need to check is the charge voltage from the alternator, with modern lead/calcium batteries you need at least 14.2 volts at 2K rpm to ensure a full charge.

bless u guys, very helpful

like everything i suppose even if two batteries have the same ah and cold start they can still
perform very differently

just so annoying when even after a full charge it's dead after leaving the vehicle standing for just 5 days

I did recheck everything via the hawkeye to ensure the alternator etc was charging ok and checked it against the haynes manual as I didn't want to assume the battery was at fault first , but alas it seems this unipart one is a pile of crap

cheers also about halfords as for a tenner to swap it over would be very handy

daft question will halfords depose of the battery for u or do u have to do that urself plse

will check out the megastore as well , most appreciated

thks again

My original LR battery lasted 8 years I think before I started replacing it with cheapish ones. They are crap so I then went for the Bosch as, at the time, it had the greatest Ah and CCA rating I could find sub-£100 (I think I paid £95.00 for it).

forgot about the varta ones, cheers for that

will see how the Varta and bosch ones compare

always good to get recommendations

most appreciated

hi

found this one

http://www.amazon.co.uk/-/dp/B007NY6GMM

will check tommorow to see if it fits the carrier as that would be just my luck otherwise, lol

was wondering what u guys thought about this battery ,

has got a decent cold start power

thks again
Looks like it's actually from Battery Megastore, their Alphaline are cheaper and have a 4 year warranty.
Google it, there are very few places making batteries now, they come out with different brands from the same factory in many cases.
