Hi all,
New to this, so hope it make's some one smile.
My 2001 freelander td4 auto just started to mess up big time. The auto seem's to be slipping - flaring up?,plus yesterday I got a flashing f and 4 and vehicle went into limp home mode, and believe me we did limp home. Have checked oil level ok,and oil did not smell burnt.
Any thorghts or advice would be of help. I thought the jatco box was surposed to be good?

jatco box suffers from overheating if used to tow - an extra cooler is best option.
they are known to slip between gear changes - particularly if used in manual or sports mode.

Thanks for reply, I think I will have to take it in to garage to get this checked out,As I am talking major slip here.

A slipping Jatco usually results in an exchange box.Rough changes, thumping through gears can usually be sorted with replacement solenoids.Sounds like you have the worst option.:(

How many miles does it have on it?

I also saw this Company on the web

Ashcroft Transmissions

not sure if anyone dealt with them - £1450 for fitted/exchanged auto box in a day or £850 just for the box. I suspect that at least half of what a steeler will charge

Hi all
Yes fault was in box, 3dr gear piston breaks up and blocks the filter, this causes the box to over heat and so on, and so on. Quoted 1600 by independant auto repairer.Been in state of shock for last 2 days. Some kind person purcahsed the vehicle as it was, and I got a fair price to. So thanks for all your input.
