If the battery light does not light, and assuming the bulb is not blown, if you remove the D+ wire from the rear of the alternator and ground the wire the bulb should light. That will prove the wiring. If the bulb lights on the test, then the alternator diode pack and/or regulator is faulty. If the bulb doesn't light on the test then you have a wiring fault.

hi datatek
i might add that i was thinking about removing the oilfilter housing and dipstick tube to see if its possible to change the diode pack from the rear of the alternator but cant find any info on these 2 jobs this is purely to save money and time..i have the "rave" and haynes manual and neither give much info an drive belt layout/tensioner ect.ect .
thanks again.. carderv

hi all got home from work and had a hour or 2 on the car..stripped the dash just to prove there are no bulbs used in the warning light set-up..also did a bulb and 2 wires placed between battery and +lead and pulled a lot of fuses ,,the bulb didnt get any brighter through this process but in course i did clean the leads from starter to alternator and now have a battery light on the dash that i didnt have before so looks like a def alternator prob regulator or dioide pack..have posted pics of dash...the small squares way down inside the plastic larger squares are the "diode" warning lights fitted to my 03 td4..the pics are posted on facebook landyzone page as i have forgot how to do it on here...hope this helps anyone who is reading
regards drevcar
