hi all, i've been looking at tyres, think they will need replacing in the next 6 months, judging the average price of a 1/2 sensible tyre ('bout £140 a corner:eek:), it dawned on me that it is not much more to buy a new alloy/tyre combo, i was looking at 18/19" rims, & thought i could then save again & put winter at's on 17" currently on the car??!!!?? has anyone else done this, or would you advise against it, would appreciate feed back;), thank's, martyn:D

if you're thinking of changing the wheels anyway, dropping down to a 16" wheel will give you a much wider choice of tyres.

Mines mainly on road, have michelin lattitudes on mine, seem just fine. cope with the little amount of laning I seem to struggle to find time to do these days.

ahh, now , the michelin lattitudes was one of the tyres i looked at, how do you find them in general, noise, grip etc??? wondering weather to keep my alloys, just have them refurbed in black/anthrecite & be done with it, still like the idea of new one's, but might be easier on the wallet on the in the long run:D

find the lattitudes as good as gold, easily as good if not better than the michelin synchrones which were original fitment but no longer available.

Wouldn't say they were any noisier than the michelin energys fitted to my wifes car.

Pretty impressed with the grip too. They cope fine when laning, during the two last big snows we had the coped perfectly well, didn't loose grip or slip once. Kept me working all through the snow. Was shocked at how bad the conditions were when I took my wifes car out, just didn't realise 'cos I'd been driving the freelander.

Even on the A13 when the snow was falling really hard, felt rock solid and gave me no causes for concern, was more than happy over taking the cars picking their way along the inside lane.

Had the lattitudes fitted back in January 2009, at 65k, up to 105k now and still loads of tread left.

Costco had a special deal on and I got all 4 tyres fitted for £316 (should have been £395)

thank's for the feedback:), think i shall go have a look at costco & see what's what!!!, thanks again, martyn:D

I brought a set of 17" alloys but quickly sold them when i could only find road tyres for £120 each for pirelli scorpion.
I got a set of 16" instead and tyres were 75 a corner. Thats a saving of £180
You can also pick up a better range of off road tyres with 16s

the 17's are standard on mine, & to be honest, as i said, i'm not too bothered about off-roading, as long as it can cope with a bit of snow & a little mud, that's fine by me:) lattitudes sound best for me......

Hi,
the 17" makes for expensive tyres as you have found out. Try tyresavings.com order on line and fitted at halfords. Only pay when all done. Marshalls at about £90 a corner all done. Were very good at a recent muddy field event. Quieter than the old synchrones that they replaced.
