Hi there ladies and gents
New here but have been dipping in and out for the past month or so anyway my freelander1TD4 has got a baffling problem it's been to three garages over the last month an a half so the story goes
First took it to my local garage engine management light came on on it appeared to loose power and smoke a bit as we were due to move to Cambridge at the end of the month I told them to sort the problem out and give it a service. Collected my Freelander on Friday took it home about 1/2 a mile. Went to work the Sunday night to Liverpool no problems there however on my way back 1mile from home started to play up again limped back to the garage early hours 06:00 anyway popped bonnet to find water cap missing off the radiator reservoir.
Left a note in car and went to get my head down called garage when I got up and apparently they never left the cap off anyhow they lent me a car to get to work next day. Next day car fixed again engine FLUSED? And all good as new well for two days then same problems again back to garage sorry we have done all we can do........
Off to garage number 2 LandRanger... Diagnosis injectors are ****** 2 replaced that will cure it... For 2 days back with the same fault third injector and rail something or other replaced and car collected, back 2 hours later same fault OH! It must be the oil pressure censor part replaced.
As it turns out we were moving our caravan down the following Sunday half way to Cambridge bet you cannot guess what happened????
So nightmare recovery care of the AA 8 hours waiting then recovery by Mr Sleepy never been so scared in my life in the back of a vehicle.
Anyway in Cambridge taken it to Marshalls as according to AA man there's a leek on the new censor so Marshalls speak to Landranger to be replaced at LR expense......taken for test drive still a problem replace fuel pump and filter under wheel arch test drive and omg there is still a problem....
So having blown well over a grand now and wishing I had just got it functioning took it to "we buy any car" anyone else want a guess as the so called experts are struggling?
Help please......

Work your way through this list and any other suggestions from others, get it on a diag machine ...

Intercooler hoses and clean the MAF ...

Have you changed the engine breather?
Its like a small sponge toilet roll in the top of the engine.
This needs to be changed annually or swapped completely for the BMW vortex part...

Try swapping the Boost control solenoid for a known good one see if that helps...

also is the engine oil level correct?

And the best idea is if you. Ain't mechanically minded either learn and fast... Or find a freelander friendly garage (not just a regular garage or even a 4x4 specialist). The problem is that they are few and far between, hence why there are a lot of spanner wielding owners around here doing all their own work!
