Hi all,
Just for information -
The battery warning light has been coming on and off over the last week, and ended up on permanently. I checked the battery voltage with the engine running and got 11.9 V - no charge from the alternator.
I pulled and pushed the plug at the top of the alternator, and heard the engine labour - the battery voltage shot up to 14.1. With some difficulty I pulled out the plug and cleaned the male and female ends. No trouble since then.
Moral of the story - before you change the alternator in response to the battery light check the basics - drive belt, connections and control wiring.
