I can't find much on the topic other than "it's expensive" or "why do you want to do that?"

My questions are:

What drive train mods are needed?
Do I need a TD4 rear differential and drive shaft?
Will my current gas tank work if I change the fuel pump?
what about fuel lines?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Everyone else will be along in a minute to moan at you for not introducing yourself first, so I will pre-empt that and say its a hellish amount of work due to the electrical side. Apparently the V6 runs a CANBUS electrical system that a TD4 does not, so as well as the mechanical swapping, you will also have to change all the electronics, instrument panel and wiring looms.

As for the mechanical side, I believe the V6 also runs a different final drive ratio so you would need to swap the rear diff.

It's possible as is everything. It isn't practical to swap the V6 for the TD4 engine though.
You have to consider why, first. If it's purely to save money on fuel, it's not worth it. The cost of the swap would outweigh any fuel savings.

The gearbox needs to be changed to match the TD4 engine, as does the IRD. The rear diff is the same but the front propshaft is different. The fuel tank could be reused but all the pipe work is different.
All of the above needs doing, plus the electrics need to be changed. You need the engine ECU, TD4 engine harness, the TCM also needs to come from the TD4. Then modify the vehicle wiring harness, programming the engine ECU suit the alarm system. The engine mounts will also be needed.
It's much easier to buy a TD4 Freelander to start with.
