After being let down on another one this week and after several weeks of phoning and being told "sorry mate it's gone", i'm picking this up tomorrow..

Auto Trader Dealer Pages - Macwest Motor Limited

103,000 miles, fsh, just taxed, MOT, serviced today, new matching tyres, good brakes, no leaking sunroof, very clean in and out.. sounds almost too good to be true.. see how it goes driving back from wigan to newcastle tomorrow!! Have already been trwling evil-bay for random parts in case the inevitable happens.. lol

That's a lot of money if you don't mind me saying but, if it is free of expensive problems and you keep it a long time it won't matter too much. If you haven't been top Wigan before you'll be less than impressed, it's a dump. Good luck!

+1 it is defo top money i agree, it's the going rate sadly at this time of year.. trained it down there this morning and as you say i won't be holidaying there next summer!! had a proper look over the motor.. couldn't fault the bloody thing.. he'd serviced and taxed it meaning i hopefully wouldn't have to dish out anytime soon..

on our way back on the M6 i noticed a quick blast of cold air out of the heater, the heaters were on full heat at the time.. happened again about half an hour later.. somethings up i thought.. as we neared newcastle all hot air gone and temp going up inclines.. limped home and got a mate round and with torches in hand found a hole in the back of the radiatior.. the coolant had gradually leaked out till empty.. not the end of the world and it looks like it happened on the way home.. going to try bars leak tomorrow and the dealer is stumping up for a new rad which i hope to have fitted this week...

so, discoveries.. the fun begins.. ;)

£5K is mental for a 99 plate, but it's your money and all that. You should have stopped when the heater went cold and certainly when the temp guage went up - That's how head's get warped!!

Do not put anything like Bars, Rad-Weld or K-Seal in your cooling system. It will **** your thermostat and may even block the heater matrix. Just wait for the new rad and fit it - Make sure you bleed the system as per RAVE then bleed it a bit more.

dealer should pay, hope you haven't cooked it

to be fair to the dealer he has been driving round in it for ages without problems, as well as the p38 he has for sale. macwest is about a 1/4 mile from our house, i wouldn't go there myself as he is bloody expensive but his cars are generally good un's:D

Well that bodes well for him getting it sorted. And just to reiterate - Do NOT put Bars or similar in the cooling system!!! Just wait until you get the rad sorted.

The dealers forecourt price is only a starting point, dealers expect to be knocked down so £4,500 is about right if the vehicle is in tiptop condition.

don't think anyones ever told macwest that one:rolleyes:.the op's been lucky if he got any discount. the p38 is worth about £6000 at the very most but he will hold out for the lot if he can.

The reason i paid £5k is that it had four new tyres, 6 months tax, serviced, it was the cleanest one i've seen by a mile,no rust etc etc.. all money i don't have to spend..

ps, when it ran hot it didn't go into red.. got home in time and was fooking freezing here luckily.. taken your advice and not put any rad-weld type products in it.. topped it up with coolant today and started her up, sounded and looked fine.. due in for new rad this week..

fingers crossed.. :)

Good man :) Price is both objective and subjective as long as you are :D then that's all that matters.

I take it you are getting it fixed locally and he is picking up the bill? Make sure they use the correct 50:50 mix of OAT coolant

absolutely.. i stuck 50/50 in today as it goes.. local landrover "specialist" fixing this week and sending bill off to macwest.. in macwests' defence he has been nothing but helpful.. and it defo wasn't leaking after the test drive.. 3 hours on the M6 heading home seems to have pushed it over the edge! ableit aty 65mph..

5k is a bit steep for a 99 plate, I paid 5200 for a 03 plate which apart from a high pressure power steering hose which cost £450 to replace its been mint.

that is a good price.. what were the miles like? road tax was a sticking point with me too, wanted a pre 2001 model..
