Hi.

I've done a search but cannot find an answer.

I have a 1997 300TDI Disco which has recently developed an issue with its windscreen wipers.

Sometimes when I put the wipers on, nothing happens!! This can be a bit unnerving, especially when it starts to chuck it down..

Sometimes, there is a delay and they work and other times I have to switch them on and off a few times before they start to work.

The only way they always work is if I push the stalk down for the single wipe.

The issue with them not working is on intermittent and constant.

When they are working, sometimes when I switch them off the wipers stay where they are instead of parking.

Any ideas?? I'm thinking the switch may be faulty but if anyone else has the same problem I'm open to suggestion. Pennies are a bit tight this month so don't want to buy anything unnecessarily.

Thanks.

I had a very similar problem on my disco 2. I replaced the motor £90 and about 2 hrs to fit. Check the wiring diagram for your disco. On the disco 2 the relay for the wipers is hard wired to the fuse box board (the one on the drivers side not the one in the engine compartment). Get a meter and check the relay is giving the required voltages when the wipers are operated in each mode. It probably is OK, then it's your wiper motor. If the relay is screwed replace it (or the fuse box board if it is hard wired).

I appear to have sorted it. Stripped it down, cleaned it up and gave it a good drenching with WD40 and now it works fine. Sorted out my non cancelling out indicators whilst I was at it and fitted a new steering wheel so a bit of TLC for the disco today!!
