I have a Right hand drive td5. 2001. when I switch the ignition and before i start the engine there is a whirring from under the dash more or less around where the wing mirror electric switch is. sounds like an electric motor.. cant imagine what its doing.. any ideas.. just got the vehicle so i am investigating any noises.
thanks

There is an in car temperature sensor there behind a small grid which has a small fan in it. These tend to pull dust ect in and get a bit bunged up. It probably just needs cleaning out.

As squizzel said, it is a fan assisted temp sensor which is part of the climate control.

U have the answer... get used to it(i did)...unless u want to dissasemble the dashboard. U can take care of it when u'll have to work there anyway for some important reason;).

I have a 1999 td5,NON Aircon,After i pull up at home switch off i get a buzzing /whirling type noise coming from the driver side proberly from just under the bonnet some where it only lasts about 30 seconds and ive often wondered what that was..

Thats our rotary oil filter spinning down.

You may find that after an oil and filter change, it may become quieter !.

I too wondered what that noise was by the dash. Cheers.
