Hi, I have an annoying leak from my 200tdi K reg disco. At first I thought it was from the water pump gasket, so I changed that. I then noticed there was still a leak from what I thought was around one of the bolts at the bottom of the water pump, so a dab of locktite on there and still no change.

I then looked at the problem from underneath and noticed a small hole underneath the pump directly under the pump shaft (if that description makes sense). Coolant was leaking from this hole, so I assumed that something must of dropped out of it.

I then blocked up this hole, and it was all good no leaking....then after a day or so noticed coolant on the drive again so investigated a little tonight.

Now it would appear that coolant is dripping out somewhere onto the coolant pump pulley so I can only assume it is making it's way along the shaft.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to fix this?
Should the hole I blocked up be unblocked?

The water pump itself seemed fairly simple and basic in operation the impellor was in good condition and spun freely when i had it off, is there anything else to check to see if the water pump is failing?

Any help, opinions and ideas greatly appreciated, thank you

you can get kits for early cast series pumps ,easy to change ,but ali pump and i have tried allways break when replacing brg spindle

The hole is actualy there to stop a preasure and vacumn acuring between the two bearings in the pump when the engine heats up and cools down causing coolant to be drawn through the bearing seals, however as James say's it act as an early warning that a pump seal and ultimatly the bearing are failing.

Replace the hole pump the seals are part of the bearings and realy arn't worth the agro changing even if you could get the pump apart without breaking it.
