hi i am wondering, if i were to filter waste veg oil with proper filters down to 1 micron, once filtered could i mix it with diesel and put it straight in my tank?
thanks

What engine are you running?

Also, are you in the UK? It's not a good idea in the cold, the oil will gel up and it won't come through the filter. It depends on exactly the type of oil and what's in it, it doesn't even need to be that cold, once you start driving the lines and filter can flash freeze the oil in them. Again depending what engine you have, it might not even start reliably on veg oil in the winter You have all winter to research it and

The short answer is yes, but I would be very cautious at this time of year if you need the car as a daily runner. Also, if the car will sit for a few days, I wouldn't bother at the moment.

You would also be better off thinning it with petrol rather than diesel. If you can get it, filter it and store it outside, do a test sample in a bottle and leave it in the garden overnight. If it looks cloudy in the morning, be pleased you haven't filled your tank with it!

I once flattened a battery trying to start a car that had gelled veg oil in the lines.

There are a millon threads on this, some are quite recent and give you goood advice. You may also wish to consider biodiesel if you can get it. Again, test a sample to check for gelling before filling up.

Another little bit of advice would be to not fill your tank, if the temp dips lower you always have the chance to put more diesel in to thin it all down and keep you mobile.

Once the gelled veg is in the filter, no amount of petrol in the tank will fix it - a kettle of water over the filter might though.
