Waiting for the RAC

I am precently sat on the back on the side of the m4 waiting for the rac to recover my friends 300tdi d1.
I was portaging along at 70 when I started to lose power, and noticed the temp up off the scale.
Now it has no electricity left and a lot less coolant than it did.
The aux belt is intact and there is no sine of mixing in the oil.

Any one what to guess what's broken ?

Oil pump, Water pump?

nah......not oil pump.....would get stupidly noisy before it got hot.....waterpump or core plug

Yeah certainly appears to be a coolant issue. If no visible leaks as such then it must have either run low or boiled it off if the pump has packed up. Either way it's got hot and maybe started to seize??

As for lack of battery power though? That is a strange one. Did you leave the headlights on?

Well it tired in to an epic getting it back, arc to the motorway junction, then an hr of playing with it before towing home on the end of a rope.

It's looking like a complex problem, so far it's over heated boiled dry , then dead battery , and I'm only getting a drip of fule at the injectors. I can get it to turn
Over fastish but not start? I defantly have compression as I was using it as a brake when going down hill on tow!

I think I'll also have to pull the water pump of to cheek that.
