V8 Transfer Box Problem

Hi

Have an V8 Disco 1 with an Auto gearbox in it. Appears the transfer box on High / Low and failed and won't drive, BUT will drive with Diff Lock selected.

Any ideas welcomed

more than likely front cv ,but could also be diff ,half shaft,drive flange etc out of difflock run vehicle in gear and get some one to watch which prop spins then you know which axle

if it works in either low/high box with difflock selected but wont with difflock not selected you may have a snapped half shaft

Sorry - thanks for the advice. Bit new to all this forum stuff still.

Well - Front prop shaft spins when D or R selected in Diff Lock Low and High. So I'm assuming that the issue is front axle related and best place to start is with the CV joints and work my way inward towards the front diff?

you could remove caps on axle and see if either spin then cvs,can be checked by jacking one wheel up and turning wheel if prop is turned okay if not thats the side

shame it wasnt the rear coz thats **** easy to do front takes a bit more time

Thanks again for the advice - just loosing the light here so will have to be a job for first thing tomorrow. Its the wife's motor and she has just informed me she heard a clunk early when turning the front wheels to park up - so I'm think CV joint

Diagnosis completed - NS CV joint had shattered in to 12 pieces!
