Hi, Please can someone with more experience of front axles help with some advice.

1994 300dti

I had to rebuild a swivel housing without the manual (Long story). Everthing went fine and the car is back on the road but upon reading the haynes manual afterwards I see I have put the stub axle on upside down, with the flank at the top.

I dont really want to strip it again if I dont need to but a also dont want the wheel to fall off :).

From memory I thought the stub axle would only go on one way up due to the pattern of the bolt holes. Might be wrong though it's been a while since I had one off.

Hi, don't worry about it the flat is only there for the locking washers. When i did my swivel ball some one had previously done some work on mine, and i found the stub axel in the wrong position according to the haynes book of fibs.So no worrys.cheers elt.

i replaced both front weel bearings on a mates disco the other week and on both stubs the flats where at the bottom but don't think it really matters.
