Tried to keep it standard, inadvertently modified it...

I needed new shocks all round for my 300TDI. Keen to avoid Britpart and other ****e, I ordered Terrafirma All Terrain shocks. Have a look at their web page:

You'd be led to believe that the Pro Sport ones were +2" and the All Terrains were standard length - WRONG!!! The All Terrains are 2" longer fully extended than the old (presumably standard) shocks which I removed. The result being, that during some severe off roading, I managed to half pop out the rear springs and somehow 'pop' the rear anti roll bar so that one of the links was pointing up, while the other was in its more usual pointing down position.

The front shocks are 2" longer too, but the springs are able to extend without losing tension on full shock extension, so no additional parts required. Pragmatically, I didn't specify or ask for standard sized shocks when ordering, and I did my own research into it, so I don't really have any chance of a refund. So I'm stuck with the extended shocks now. So I need to additionally purchase rear spring dislocating cones (and spend another happy day fiddling with my suspension fitting them) and that's after snapping off one of the nuts on the rear damper upper mount which meant I bought new ones of these too. So the bill for a simple change of shocks is climing more and more.

Anyone else had the rear anti-roll bar invert one or both of the little links to the axle? I guess it was sheer chance I did it (must have been fully extended suspension + some kind of rock or ground that pushed it up to pop it over). Worried it might happen again, are there any solutions for this or is removal of the whole thing, the best route?

Please dont take this the wrong way but did you not get the terrafirma book it tells you what shocks do what job :doh:

I looked on the website and the parts catalogue, the products pages doesn't state the extra extension of the All Terrain shocks and the parts catalogue quite clearly suggests they're standard length - which they're not. I'd say they're misdescribed on the website.

For clarity, I'm talking about product code TF116 and TF117 on a Disco 1.

Pop some cones in there and youll be good to go and better off anyway.

You may find the new dampers reduce the need for ARB anyway...?

Cones will be purchased and popped in there, as soon as funds allow! If the ARB does that again, it will be ditched.

My rear arb spun round on full articulation aswell but I've got a 2" lift. So I'm gonna bolt some 2" box section inbetween the arb mount and the chassis mount to see if that cures it, if it does then I'll extend the original ones.
