just fitted my tree sliders made by (rock-slider)very easy to fit, brackets easy to work with,
just wondering if anyone else has fitted a set of these and if so what they used to fix along top of slider that fixes to sill,i was thinking of using roofing sheet screws, the ones with the rubber coller and a 10mm head bolt and just screwing them staight into sill, or is this a silly idea,

i would add these are very well constucted and fit the body perfect,if anyone is thinking of getting a set..:)

You mean the self drilling things? If i've got the right end of the stick in thinking you've cut away the original sill and replaced it with a box section rock/tree slider, then you'll need to weld it...

having said that
:nopics:

they look nice mate

hats off to 'rocksliders'

however, i would say theyd want more holes drilling into the sill, mine have a top row and bottom row of bolts along the sill pates, at about 5 inch spacing all along.

either way, i used rivnuts/nutserts in the sills - probabloy the best way of fastening.

i think i used M8 nutserts, these were drilled with a 9.8mm drill iirc to give an interference fit, which aided assembly.

cheers

i will try that they screw bolt things i tried were useless dont tighten up was thinking of riviting them on,but not sure,i jumped onto getting my lightbar fitted coz my lights arrived...nothing like finishing off the jobs u start lol..
snorkel next..unless the wife finds out..

update on this tried the rivnuts but never had tool, googled it and found out you can tighten up with nut and bolt, but never worked just kept turning rivnut probably because it was the smooth shaft type, ended up drilling right through and coach bolting it with m8 bolts, nice and tight now, think i might make a plate up for rear sill so that the washers dont pull through sill when they become abit weaker..

the rivnuts are best hammmered into a small hole then tightened, the grip helps them to start off. once they spread they grip tighter, but you done it now anyway!

cheers!

I used rivnuts, you need to make a tool so the rivnut stays still while you tighten up the nut on the bolt to compress the nut, have a look at this site as it give clear instructions. I found my 8mm rivnuts only needed 2 to 2 1/2 turns not the 3 sugested on the site

Homemade Riv-nut Tool

Get 2 nuts both same size and drill the threads out of one of them. insert rivnut, put threaded nut onto bolt. Drop threaded nut onto bolt and screw bolt into rivnut. Then hold bolt to prevent it from turning and tighten nut onto rivnut. The drilled nut acts as a spacer and stops the rivnut from turning whilst the nut is pulling it tight.

i tried it with a nut screwed up an m8 bolt screwed the bolt into the rivnut then tightened the nut down onto the rivnut but just kept turning the rivnut, tried it with a couple of washers between nut and rivnut but just the same,i noticed on the web homemade tool thread the actual shaft on the rivnut was splined, this would have helped as the ones i got were smooth ones only the rim was splined, the rivnut is defo the better option but too late now ive drilled them right through..

it's starting to sound like quite a lot of effort to fit these rock sliders! lol, presumably there's nothing that self-taps that would do the job long-term is there?

Rivnuts are the best cos they're very strong.

I used splined rivnuts hammered into an undersize hole, I think one or two spun out of 30 odd, the rest just tightened right up.

As above fishsponge, theyre not hard to fit, just a pain in the arse SOMETIMES!

Self tappers won't do it mate, needs to be ruddy strong to stop the slider flexing and twisting.

Cheers :D

the slidders are **** easy to fit, even drilling the holes only took 10 mins with the cordless drill and the coach bolts will hold them strong enough..the whole job probably took about 2 hours by myself, but i wasnt pushing it,was lucky enough that the nuts on the body mount bolts came off easy(where the new bracket attaches underneath)

Yeah I was very suprised when my chassis bolts came out easily too - it was CRUSTY in there and they wound straight out.

Quality nuts and bolts back in the 90s :D

riv nuts are best
you can fit them with a piece of flat bar with a hole drilled in it and a bolt
there is a very good right up on the net how to do it

also the rivnut tools are around £10 on ebay and there realy handy so im shure you wud use over and over again
and thanx for all the good feedback everyone
