Took It For A Spin

Picked up the Disco officially today. Took it for a spin up the A14. Goes really, really well. Handling seems well on the road. Just a bit of tyre rub when on full lock coz of the fat ones on there.

It's a Disco 300tdi Auto on R plate 1998.

Few little things I need to know about..............

1 - Cig lighter doesn't work. Can't use satnav so liable to get lost. I guess the fuse would be the place to start but where is it?

2 - N/S rear electric window switch doesn't work. It'll go up and down from the centre console switch but not the switch on the door.

3 - Lost a digit on the clock.... new clock?

4 - Smell of dog.......... best way to get rid of?

5 - Rear wiper doesn't work. It sprays but the wiper arm won't move.

6 - Battery clamp missing. Just sitting in engine bay! I'll make a clamp ASAP.

1. Fuse box, check fuse no.6
2. Check switch in door first
3. Replace clock
4. Pass
5. Seized motor, now power to motor, fuse, switch or wiring faulty

Ref rear door switch. Check central button in console is not in lock position.This allows rear windows to operate from console but prevents little fingers in the rear open/closing windows.

4) sprinkle the car with bicarbonate of soda, leave for few hours then hoover. the bicarb absorbes the smell. and then spray with febreeze. you can also try setting a few small containers around with vanilla extract in them. Vanilla is a nature odor absorber. Keep the car windows closed. and then spray with febreeze.

Window lock button is fine. One side works, the other doesn't.

Will try cleaning tips and see what happens. Washed it today...... Bloody freezing outside lol.

I take it you have shares in febreeze?

Also. Engine really slow at turning over at the moment. Linked another fully charged battery onto it and it started first time. I guess the battery is fuked but it could be the alternator. I am on a job at the minute hoping it will start!

4 - borrow a goat for a few hours. I guarantee you'll lose the smell of dog.

I tried Fabreeze along with Oust and they were not that effective and the fragrance didn't last long! I've found that the spray damaged certain plastics in my house, so I wouldn't try using it in my car again.

I recommend autoglym products. I find them to be very effective. The autofresh product is what I use on fabrics in my car. For me, it does what it says on the label and the fragrance lasts quite a long time.

In response to #1, either quite smoking, or buy a zippo and a map. GPS and other lighter brands are lame.

Put a new battery on today. 720cca big mama! Made a battery clamp.

Will try and sort cig lighter and wiper tomorrow. Got a new clock coming so that will sort that

Got a vax attachment today and some car interior shampoo so will start inside when it gets a little warmer.

Number 4 - fabreeze and air fresheners

No.4 - make up a solution of liquid clothes detergent and warm water then sponge down the headlining, seats and boot carpets (don't soak them just dampen them a bit - will also shift dirt and stains) then you can use the same solution on the plastic trims, rubber mats and other bits with a toothbrush to get into dimpled plastics, rinse it off with a cloth dampened with clean water afterwards otherwise it can leave a whiteish stain afterwards.

Bought a load of valeting stuff today from Halfrauds. Spent this afternoon hoovering, cleaning and polishing = clean landy. I like cars to be clean inside.... not too fussed about outside in this weather. I'll polish the outside in the summer.

I will shampoo seats and carpets when it gets warmer as I don't want it to go mouldy in this cold weather.

Just looking for info on the radio now. The original one is long gone and the guy I bought it off took his one out. Looks like all original connectors are there. None have been cut and taped so all is good! Are these standard ISO connectors? Just want a cheapey cd player in there.

Back to Halfords 4u and they will fit the radio.

Standard connectors barring the aerial lead, you'll want an ISO plug for that... ISTR the cable is hard wired into the standard units...

New radio in. Cig lighter fixed.

I found a brown piece of mains cable running from the battery positive into the back behind the engine, possibly into the front cab somewhere. Obviously someone has put something in at some point so I've got to find the other end of that too.

sounds like you getting all the things done, you'll have to come and meet up with discodad and I, also the rest of the mob, good bunch of lads and we get out a lot and play....

Waiting to hear when you're next going out. Filled to the max with diesel waiting

Got a few little bits to do and we'll be good. Grabbed a radio and fitted it today. We have sound - yey!

Got the manual the other day. Full of info! Will look at adjusting the steering lock stops soon as tyres rub slightly when at full lock coz of the phat tyres
