quick, I read the tire posts easy on the jets gang!
new disco series 1 owner and i have kelly 255/70/r16's which don't appear on the guide!
from the guide some rear fender mods needed for 245/75/r16's which would be 1cm or 0.4 inches greater diameter than the kelly's

so, are 255/70's just the oddest damn tire out there and are they to make it a beach buggy or what?

235/75's are detailed as rubbing elsewhere here, think redhand mentioned it, and these would be 0,2 inches smaller diameter.

so i have a modified disco beach runner? need to get the wham cd's now
to make it a more off-roader 235/75's should fit?

should have mentioned that this page is a real good visual comparator for tyres

I use that calculator in the link.........great tool.
:hijacked:

I will need tyres soon on my 52 plate disco. Standard size is 255/65/16 I don't care about the "big tyre image" I don't do any serious off roading, just a little towing on and off farms and caravan sites. I am thinking in terms of economy, both in buying the tyres and MPG. My options are...standard or 235/70/16......or 225/75/16.

Anyone have any thoughts, please?

I got the new General Grabber ATs fitted on mine and they seem superb so far. Great in the wet, and on the light 'greenlane' type routes I sometimes take. Cheaper than BFGs too, and should cope with anything you throw at them. Only done 500 miles on them, so not much more to report. Hasn't snowed round here since I got them.
