TD5 vs well TD5

Quick question, early Td5 about a 1999 with less that 100k on it or a later one 2003 with about 120k +, about a 7k - 8k to spend.

Not mine but a neighbours is looking.

Does one favour the other, any faults on one over the other not the common issues generic to both???

I've a 2000 - I agree the 2003 has all the advantages - bar one... it will not have a diff lock present in the LT230 Transfer box wheras the earlier model will. it will cost an extra £350 and a lot more effort to fit Diff lock. Even so I'd go with the 2003 model.

I've a 2003 facelift model 170,000 on clock paid £5,200 and drives and pulls like a train.
Well looked after they will last forever, just have to put up with the niggles which come with any landrover and each model has it own problems but once addressed re: leaky roofs then its happy days.

I have a 2004 td5 Es premium and mine had diff lock

I think diff-lock was reincluded in 2004 as an optional extra in high spec models - so that may possibly account for why yours has it. In general transfer boxes starting with a 41D or 42D serial number have the diff lock mechanism
