Td5 non starter

Hi there,new to the forum so bare with me.The wife's runabout,a TD5 disco has had a intermittent starting fault for about 2 months now,turn the key and the solenoid clicks,but the starter motor won't turn.in the past I'd get underneath,give the connections a fiddle and she'd fire up.tried it yesterday but nothing,just the click.any idea's?

common fault you can get a solenoid kit from ebay £10,straight forward job from underneath 3 x bolt to remove end cover diconnect battery first

Heard about that,but also heard there's a chance the motor could be u/s,cheers

more likely solenoid ,remoive plate on solenoid pull out plunger check and clean plunger and contacts then you will know quite obvious to look at
