Hi
I've a 99 GS Discovery and I need advice.
Dont know much about it.It's used for my dogs and as a shooting truck.
The wheel bearing went last week.New hub fitted!.When I went to take it back home from the garage all of a sudden when I turned left the wheel seemed to bind on?never happened before?.The garage took it back and after 4 days they were still scratching their heads. So we tried a new brake servo, still the same!.Its been on a diagnostics and no problems are showing anywhere. The binding only comes on if I turn left and if you put the clutch in when you turn left it does'nt bind.Any help would be much appreciated.

check if they have crimped the brake pipe that goes to the caliper or it may have gone buy itself . take wheel off to check it get some one to turn steering left and look at the pipe to see if its bending crimping i have seen this happen before ... its worth a look gud luck

Thanks for the quick replys lads.I'll be giving the garage your Ideas on Monday to see if they can cure it.please post anymore thoughts and Ill keep posted to the outcome.
Thanks again.

When they fitted the new hub I assume it came with a new ABS sensor??? They usually do.

Suggest to them to make sure that they have ensured that the sensor is fully seated BEFORE fastening the retaining bolt. If the sensor is not properly seated it can trick the Traction Control into thinking the wheel is not spinning correctly so it applies the brakes to that wheel only. Tapping it home (gently) with a piece of wood and a hammer usually does it.

Ok will do.
Its a friend of mines garage and they dont specialise in Landrover its doing his head in as much as mine so all the answers are much appreciated.
Cheers

Abs been disconected. Truck now drivable but lights on all over dashboard.possibly going to try new abs sensors.if that fails its getting chucked of a cliff!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Steve in your pm to me you said that the hub you put on was not in fact new, but one from your mate's truck, so I'm wondering if this was any good.

However, as I said before I would take out the abs sensor and clean it up, lightly grease it and refit tapping it lightly to ensure it is fully home before refitting the retaining bolt and trying that.

As you're not fitting new kit it's more difficult to know where the fault it. Have you had it any any diagnostic machine?

Hi Big lad
The hub was fine when my pal was using the truck before he broke it for spares.my truck now drives spot on like it use to but without the abs working and the other stuff working that I mentioned.I got the lads to try what you said regarding the abs sensor in your first post and it didnt work,I dont know if one of the lads has been a bit rough when doing the hub works and maybe broke the sensor not realising?Do you think its worth getting the new sensors? The truck doesnt get used a massive amount when Im not shooting but am i right in thinking because hes unplugged the abs the T/C will not be working therefore the truck is useless off road.?
Sorry for been a pest(I know nothing about the bloody thing)
Thanks
Steve

Forgot to mention that it was on diagnostics machine before the abs was unplugged and everything was fine.
Thanks

Hi Steve, the Hill descent control, the Traction Control and the ABS braking system are all part of the same overall system - so if the abs is 'unplugged' then none of the others will work either.

Have you had a diagnostic machine on the car, that would tell you where the problem lies. If you just go ahead and replace parts willy-nilly you'll end up spending more cash than you need to. Just seen your post about diagnostics where you say everything was fine - well it can't be can it? Do you know what diagnostic machine they hooked it up to, because I'm wondering if it just can't find the fault/s.

Hi Dave
Yeah see your point theres something wrong somewhere? The garage is your normal run of the type so I dont know if his Diagnostic machine would find it like I said they dont have much to do with Lannys.Im stumped Dave!!!Would it be worth taken it to a Landrover garage to see if they can find the fault? What would you do.
Thanks
Steve

Well pretty much as soon as I got my second TD5 I bought my own diagnostic kit - I couldn't being beholden to a garage that knows less about LR's than me.

Owning any of the more modern LR's requires different tools, so I bought a Hawkeye diagnostic and I find it's ideal. Cost me £250 and worth every penny.

FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!
New abs sensor fitted today all lights are off and everything working.
Thanks for the help.

My mate runs his own garage, he uses snap-on a diagnostic machine and it'll only read some of the TD5 system, usually not the parts I want.

I'm very pleased for you Steve.

I'm up to my armpits in electrics today. Trying to get the heater fan on Wendy's TDi working. Checked all fuses - OK. Tested all the major components - fan, relay, resistor, still can't get it to fire up? Pals just gone off to get his circuit tester to see if we can find the break - getting a bit bored with this now.

Don't you just love electrics.
