Hi to everyone (I'm new to the Landyzone forum).

I have a question regarding the fuel pump on my S2 Disco. I started it up the other day with the drivers door open and heard the pump making the whining strangled cat noise for about 2 or 3 seconds. I'd never heard it before so over the next few days I've tried starting it with the door open and shut. Can't hear it at all with the door shut, but can with the door open.

My question is does it always do that on start up (some sort of initial priming) or do I have air getting in?

I took the boot carper up and removed the pump cover hatch. So now I can hear it with the door shut, but it is silent when running, the discos starts instantly and I can see not trace of fuel leaks along the length of the system.

I'm hoping someone will say yes they always do that you've just never heard it before, especially as I'm doing about a 1500 mile trip though europe in two weeks time (on the road).

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Regards
Haydn

mine started getting noisy, I ignored it and then it cut out whilst reversing out of my yard in france and that was that, new pump time! Its supposed to make a noise when you turn the ignition on, shouldn't hear it in the car. Mine started screeching and wailing like a banshee, even whilst driving so i guess yours is fine...According to my garage, if its sucking in air thru rusty connectors etc it can start to sound noisy, or if fuel tank not sealed, when not full..

Mine has always sounded like a formula 1 car passing on start up, have had many filter changes over the yrs but still makes the same sound each time.

Thanks for the replies,

Unfortunately things are now going down hill, having trouble getting it started today, and it actually conked out for a couple of minutes on the dual carriage way. Sometimes it starts instantly and others I'm having to hold the accelerator down and crank it for sometime :(

I put a new genuine filter on tonight but the noises are just the same.

Still can't see any leaks along the system so I'm thinking its the washers and seals on the injectors?

Any other thoughts
Cheers
Haydn
