Guys,

Ive got the dreaded diesel leak.

Can anyone give me an idea of how often its the 'o' rings as I see this kit looks tempting

Repair Kit

How often does the whole regulator need replacing?

It's usually just the O-rings that let go, causing the leaks.

Budget for a 5yr cycle of replacement.

I guess I must be the unlucky one :(

I replaced all of the seals yesterday with the kit from ebay, I also replaced the 'o' ring in the cylinder head and refitted the FPR with a new gasket and still it leaked.

I couldnt see where the leak was coming from but with the FPR off again this morning I can see the gasket was well seated and undamaged and with new seals I can only guess its the diaphragm in the regulator body itself. On inspection in hand there was fuel dripping from the hole in the reg.

Would I be right in assuming there should be nothing coming out of this hole at the bottom of the regulator body and would this indicate a split/hole in the diaphragm and the cause of the leak?

Those Fpr's are a pain in the arse to change whenever we get one in at work we normally refuse to fit the repair kit as the dont normally work and then we end up having to take it off and fit a new one anyways :(

Yes it was a real pain to get off, I ended up taking the starter off so I could get to the connections and bottom bolt easier. Once I did it that way it took just 30 mins to get it back off this morning.

Anyone got any ideas on my diaphragm theory before I order a new FPR?

I dont have a torque wrench but I assume 18lbs is just a good nip with a socket?

If the diaphragm theory is real the FPR must have not worked properly not just leaked, anyway the certain thing is to get a new one.

That's a good point.

The vehicle seems to be running fine but it failed its MOT on this leak and a few others. I am happy to fit a new FPR but am a little worried if the leak is actually coming from somewhere else.

IMO if it's around the FPR there's a small chance to be from somewhere else.

Hi mine seems to be dripping from the same hole, this would explain why all those who have fitted new seal etc have fail to stop leak, it's the internals leaking in the pressed steel valve its self, so there we have it new but cheap part needed forget the seals a gasket just put a new valve in its a Bosch part and I think it's number is printed on the side of it ?
Some VW car are fitted with the same part and maybe cheaper to buy ?

So has anyone come to this conclusion before would have thought so by now ??
Would be very interested to hear ?
