Discovery TD5 AUTO 1999 Has been running poorly but finally got my finger out and started to sort it however it is still struggling to get engine power which is now great to the wheels via the gears. So far its been re mapped by Mike the legend Dynachip great service and knowledge advised me to blank exhaust yet to do,change the flow meter done and after test drive and further advice service the gearbox as the old oil may be struggling to get through the filter and into the gears done and finaly new injector harness with even more advice to check no oil travel down the wire to the ECU anything else i should or could do to improve my beloved disco.

how if its got power do you mean its not delivering to the wheels,is gear box slipping, does it feel you got brakes on or engine feel gutless

No its not slipping it's got the power because the engine is roaring away its just not getting transfered to the wheels especially up hill and from 3rd to top gear and i end up with the engine reving its nads off but it not getting into top or getting up an incline as it should do with ease nice and smooth !!!!

Had gear box serviced had no come back on the state of oil changed as for the turbo if that shows on the ecu then no no probs with that either

Is this all happening below 55-60 mph?

if engine has power and it feels like its slipping, gear box and torque convertor need changing a bit beyond a service theres nowt wrong with engine the only other thing it could possibly be is busted cv or diff or half shaft and slipping viscous coupling,

What viscous coupling? The only vc on a TD5 is for the cooling fan - you don't mean that one do you?

Yes however most of my driving is urban but it does well on the motorway and easily drives in top gear its the town driving and inclines that do not sound right its just so noisey do you think the egr blanking plate will help and maybe being less agressive with my lead foot

Hello mate, I think there is every chance that your autobox is behaving normally.

In the TD5 the Torque Converter(TC) has a stall speed of 2800rpm which means that it has a tendancy to feel a bit like a slipping clutch until it goes into TC lock-up at about 55mph.

Unfortunately the std TC is really not appropriate for this application. There is a company called Ashcroft Transmissions that do a modified TC with a stall speed of 2200rpm and is a bigger more capable units. Owners that have done this mod report great improvements, less slip, better perf and better mpg.

From what you say it's not an engine problem so changing anything/everything on the engine will not resolve this - it's a transmission issue in my opinion.

Cheers
Dave

Thanks for that the more i read up and think about it and with my limited mechanical knowledge i agree with you as Mike Dynachip who speaks of you with a smile said that engine was in good nick which leads me to think that my fault lies beyond the engine however will slap the blanking plate on as i have it ready and waiting ......
