HI,

Was just driving the td5 on the bypass earlier and all of a sudden when I pulled away at a roundabout the car started shaking to buggery. Thinking I had accidentally driven onto the rumble strip thought nothing of it.

However, car seemed down on power for the rest of the journey. Once I got off the bypass I realised the car was definately misfiring. At idle it sounds like there is a cylinder not firing and practically stalls if I put the car in drive with the brakes on.

When I re-start the engine it runs perfectly for the first 3 - 4 seconds and then starts the misfire again.

Anybody got an ideas? I was on holiday for 2 weeks until Thursday and it was left with very little fuel in it. Refuelled Friday and its done 40 miles until this misfire.

check ur timing ,sounds like there is sumink wwrong there

I would have thought that as this has only started after running the tank right down, there is a chance that it's picked some crud up from the tank.

I'd be inclined to change the fuel filter first and then see how she is.

Thanks, I'll try changing the fuel filter.

Just tried restarting it about 3 hours after last running it. Ran sweet as for about 15 seconds then started misfiring again. Guess that would rule out a blocked injector?

Stopped the engine and restarted engine immediately and it misfired from the start.

Thing that gets me is its a very "regular" misfire -- I would have thought a crudded up fuel filter would cause random misfires all over the place?

yer good point check all fuel. slight cost difference between filters etc and sorting out timing!

One other thing -- I've been struggling to get more than 360 miles on a full tank recently. Most people are reporting >500 And I don't drive particularly aggressively. Any chance this could be related?

its unlikely but it may b sumink like ur fuel pump. if i was u i would get all the fuel system checked out cous u dnt wanna do any more damage and if it is cous u got shit in fuel u need to drain the system cous will cause mab serious damage else where!

the thing with td5's is that it could be anything due to all the electics. it may b that from off roading ur ecu has got wet or got mud in it and therefore is slightly misfuctioning.
the wiring loom may well have been damaged due to heat or oil.

before you start spending to mutch money get it pluged in an see what faults come up i am guessing you hav checked the ecu for oil if not then this is the very first thing to do sounds like an injector to me
put up wher you live and some local may have a nanocom who can help

Yes, check your ECU harness for oil in the first instance.

I replaced mine as a matter of course when my injector no.1 failed recently. (And obviously replaced the incector too!)

Failed injector will show up as an open circuit fault on the appropriate cylinder, will clear on restart but re-fault. Should be logged historically.

Mine only mis-fired once warm, if that helps with your diagnosis.
