hi all
i have just fitted a clutch on my td5 a britpart heavy duty kit and i have a problem.
yes i no many people dont like the parts but thats all i had the cash for .
as i push the clutch pedal down its got a grinding feel to it.
all works ok dont slip and pulls like a dream. i do get that noise at idel wich i dont mind just dont like the feel that i get from the pedal
one thing that i did do when fitting the clutch is just take off the slave sylinder with the two bolts dint drain the oil out off it
on the refit i pushed the slave sylinder with one hand y i put a blot in with the other hand tighten it all the way up and then did the other bolt
will this be my problem do u think the piston in the slave sylinder be off set now or somthink by doing it this way or do i have a bigger problem any help will be great thanks

Your right maybe the slave cylinder isn't seated properly ? Had similar problem on my old series, not sure about Manuel td5 as mines an auto. How hard was the job? I changed the clutch on my old 300 tdi disco on my own on my back and it took most of the day!! Lifting a gearbox with transfer box by urself on your back and trying to line the spline up ain't the easiest job I've done lol

i did the clutch on my back it took me about 2 days
the hard bit about it was get gear box out and back in i was just useing trolley jack with i bit off wood on the top wich made for hard work let me tell you lol
snapped just about all the crossmember bolts wich i ave still got to sort out
the water pip at the back of the eng was a big prob as well box not go back in till i took it off and i did not see that till about 5h off trying to get box back in
will i do the job agen i dont think so u realy need a ramp and a gear box jack
going to put a diffrent slave sylinder on today and see what happens thanks ill let u no the out come

ok i have redon the slave sylinder and its still the same so looks like i will have to see if it just beds in unless any one my no whats up with it

cluthch forks dont go on td5s ,crossmember bolts if snapped ,nuts on insided of bracket can easily be chisled off with snapped stuid still inside and can be replaced with rivnuts or flange seated nuts as these self hold while been tightened some new release brgs have a center that can be pushed to one side where it catches the sdie of brg ,also spigot bush can give noise if damaged during fitting

how long did it take you as i have got to do a clutch on my TD5 this weekend !!

If its on your drive, depending on which jacks you have, allow for a couple of shifts. Remember and disconnect fuel temp sensor just below the turbo, and the crankshaft sensor next to starter motor. And as mentioned, be aware of the water pipes at the rear of the rocker cover. There are tabs on there that are easy to trap between engine and bellhousing when rebuilding. Good luck.

i did mine the first time on my drive never again took a good 10 hours and that was using an engine crane threw the drivers door to lower the gear box down last time i did it i did it on a 4 post ramp 100 times easeyer (but i have had the gearbox out 3 times now)
