The past week my 300tdi disco has been stalling at low revs and then not firing up. It looks like there is a small amount of diesel at the lift pump and one of the injectors. So im guessing air going ot change the lift pump and maybe the injector washers. Jus wondering if anyone had any other thoughts, is is possible to be wax due to the cold weather? Cheers

Hi there, common causes for this problem are:

1. Faulty lift pump - about £20 to replace and about 10 mins

2. Blocked fuel filter - about £8 for a set of the three main filters from Paddocks. Takes about 2 mins to swap

3. Congested fuel sedimenter - when you take the bowl off there is very often a jelly-like substance in there which partially blocks fuel flow;

4. Rusted fuel sender pipes. At the top of the tank where the fuel sender is located there are metal pipes which can allow air to enter the fuel system. Only long-term solution is another sender.

5. Faulty fuel solenoid in the injection pump. To check for this, remove the solenoid, start the engine and see if it ticks over correctly, if it does you've found the problem. Btw, you will need to stall the engine to stop it, without the solenoid in place.

Good luck

Dave

take the return pipe off the injection pump and pop on a bit of clear tube into a container-run engine,return should be putting out air free fuel-any air and you have to find where it is getting in

Joy, gave my disco a good service, changed filter, lift pump and stop solenoid and cleaned up the connection. Took the sedimenter off and there was some jelly crap in there. All back together bleed it through and thinking great all done. It has cut out again exactly the same! Im lost luckly iv managed to get it started again after a few attempts any other ideas what to look at now?
