Spring Spacers

Im thinking of fitting spring spacers to my Disco instead of a lift kit(springs, shocks etc) Just wanted to know if fitting them is a good idea, if so how do you fit them?

Also, Ive heard so much about everything going to pot with a 2" lift, but ive sen sets of 1" lift spacers, is 1" worth it? and will a inch ruin all the bushes and joints etc like a proper 2" lift does?

I had a Trooper a couple of years ago, Fitted 2inch spring lift then 1.3inch spacers. As long as you fit them in place properly they should not move (when at full articulation).

Mine were shaped to cup the top of the spring and then fitted as the spring would normally, I also put a couple of heavy duty cable tiles around the spacers and springs to be on the safe side.

As for Discovery specific issues I cannot comment sorry.

what do you want from the lift? better off road ability or just the look? how old are the springs that are on there?

One inch spacers will do the job very well and will be no problem for the props and bushes.
One inch lift will be enough unless you want a monster truck

I want both looks at off road ability, but mostly off road ability, Springs on there are 172K ones lol, but I think they are heavy duty ones as its a commercial disco

If you want off road ability the spacers alone probably won't do it for you, unless you fit extended shocks or move the top mounting point for the original shocks down to compensate for the lift.

if they are original springs i would replace them, will give you a much better ride and increase your ride hight by not being saggy as fook!

i'm not really a fan of spring spacers i think they look cheap and nasty (which they generally are) if you want to go up do it with springs and extended shocks

if you want off road ability then start with tyres, if you fit spacers you will still have the same diff clearance and a bit less articulation iirc

Ive got BFGoodrich A/T tyres on atm, seem to cope pretty well off-road, im not going to conqure massive drops and ruts etc, just light off roading really

so why bother with the spacers then?

If you dont plan on fitting bigger tyres and could possibly cause more expense than a couple of cheap spacers I dont see the point.

some get away without problem others cost more than just a few quid

For the added ground clearence really, my local stomping ground has lots of places that cause my disco to ground out

spring spacers wont lift your axels any higher though they will only lift the body :doh:

I know... its the chassis that scrapes, not the axels

I take it you mean the chassis grounds out during entry and exit to an incline, and over a hump the centre gounds out?

The point of lifting the chassis for most is so they can fit bigger tyres - its the bigger tyres that improves the ground clearance. If so you would be better of with 2 rather than 1 inch as it would limit tyre size.

and how can the chassis scrape and not the axles?
the axles are below the chassis

Your springs and shocks are most likely shagged at that mileage so I wouldn't bother with the spacers and would get a lift kit. I've just put a 2" kit on mine and man what an improvement! Cos the springs had sagged it went up 3", the kit I got was £200 delivered and well worth it (and it dosn't handle crap) plus you can fit 265's then.

tiz just to allow tyre clearance .

Found 1 inch spacers on ebay, listed as 25mm. The nose, belly and tail ground out on inclines and going over humps, axels would only ground out in a deep rutted track.
