Hello again,
my td5 is, at the moment having water issues. I have replaced the thermostat and the water pump. Had it sniff tested and no colour change. Whilst driving along the temp guage shoots up to max, i lose revs and it slows to about 50mph. Sometimes it will kick itself back down but now and again it's stopping time. There are no apparent leaks but the pressure is building with no release. The following day when she's cooled down i end up putting a litre of fluid back in.
Any ideas welcome, running out of ideas and don't really want to get the head skimmed if not required. ta

Hmmmmmmmmm, difficult one, have you had the vehicle long? Has it had radweld **** put in the engine? Could be rubbery stuff floating in the block? Long shot but its a strange one.

only had her 2 months,i haven't put any radweld in and the guy i bought her off said he hadn't. Took her on a 400 mile round trip with no problems but whilst i do a trip up to manchester (45 miles) she plays up.the lads @ greasemonkeys suggested throwing the problem on here to see if anyone else had the same problem, it's baffling them at the mo.

Sniff tests don't work very well, at least our Sealey one doesn't except where the symptoms are obvious anyway.

Usually the best plan is to pressure test it up to 1.5bar or so and see what happens. At least you can check that there is a problem and it may be visually obvious with some pressure.

Td5 heads shouldn't be skimmed BTW. I know people do it, but LR say not to.
