Ok so ive searched and i cannot find it so if anyone wants to tell me what the spigot bush is then i would appreciate it thanks Dan

no. nothing to do with the clutch at all. simply stops the input shaft of the gearbox from whackering about and destroying its bearings. it will either be in the middle of the flywheel or inside the end of the crank. either a phosphor bronze bush or a bearing.

thats the problem, auto dont have one cos the input shaft is in the torque convertor.
every manual in the world should have one in some shape or form. If you dont have one your input shaft will not be supported and under heavy load could put stress on the bearings in the gearbox and 4th gear.
At idle with your foot off the clutch it will usually clatter like mad without one, like the release bearing is knackered. i put an isuzu in a 300 disco and our adapter fir the spigot bush was too short and didnt reach, it drove ok but made a hell of a racket and would have probably killed the box soon.
Is it a dual mass flywheel?

I just have one sitting on my table...

This is for a 300TDi

I changed my clutch in 2001 Td5 last year and changed the spigot bush also - it's an interference fit in the end of the crankshaft .
My old one was breaking up .
I found the new one was a loose fit so I fitted it using Stud and Bearing fit .
The bush is easily damaged so take it easy when fitting .

You CAN NOT SAY that engines for Automatic gearboxes don't have pilot shaft (spigot bush) bearings fitted.

I reckon that the chances are high that all TD5 crankshafts are fitted with a pilot shaft bush at the time the crankshaft is being made. The thing costs 10 pence, takes 5 seconds to fit, so why not? It would save them worrying which crankshafts are fit to be used for automatics only, and which are fit for both types of transmission.

I will bet you £1.00 there IS a spigot bearing in the crank!

If you havent a spigot bush fitted it will make short work of destroying the clutch centre plate, The primary motion shaft will float and cause the clutch centre plate to crack up,
thats without the massive side load on the inner Primary motion shaft bearing,
Will bugger up the box sooner than later,
