Afternoon all. having a problem with my disco and unsure as to wether or not its the spider. Ok so first off its a 1994(M) 300tdi manual.
Driving back from school this afternoon, and the hazards came on whilst driving. So we pulled over, pressed the hazard switch to on, and got a double click from the relay. Turn switch back off, Hazards stayed flashing, but got no double click. Switched ignition off still flashing. Ignition back on on the lights stopped. About a mile after this the car cut out. Then after a 30 seconds or so it restarted, did this(cutting out) 5 times in 7miles. I'm alittle confused as i thought the 94 300tdi didn't have a spider. Any info would be great.
cheers girls and guys

Not you month is it.
U don't have a spider, with the hazards coming on sound you hit a bump in the road a bit hard and and activated the crash inerita switch, which will unlock the doors if locked and flash the indicators.
Sounds there's an intermittant fault with some wiring but as it's a diesel I haven't a clue on the engine stuff. :)

don't remeber hitting a big lumps in the road pal, freshly laid tarmac pal lol. it does have an alarm however sometime the horn stopped working eventhou when tested works fine lol. now when you lock the car the flasher works as they should. But open a door before unlocking(not all doors lock off the key) the lights flash but no alarm. And its not my month at all.

would that be the multi function relay next to the fuse box. As this also controls the heater plugs. and they have never worked in the 17 months we have had it. And i've tried 3 sets of glow plugs on her.

Sounds like the crash inertia switch to me too. They can go faulty and become over-sensitive.

Do you have 1 or 2 buttons on the keyfob?

cheek bugger lol. I don't have a key fob, so couldn't tell you lol. gonna have alook at the mfu in the daylight. Tried the system test for it, but got no beeps at all

The alarm not sounding is because I suspect the hooter isn't.

MFU controls all the timings plus a few other things as u said there is a function test for the unit... it's spooky when the various things start happing. Do the simple things like the interior lights time out, wipers front and rear delay also rear fogs go through it.
MFU is on the back of the fuse board a black box on your disco cream on later models.

Would'nt bother with the mfu, the hazards going off was the inertia switch in the alarm ecu as Discool said.
The mfu has nothing to do with the glow plugs.
I'd be looking at the alarm ecu first, sounds as though it could be playing up.
They tend to suffer from dry solder joints and corrosion due to rainwater leakage.
Also the connector plug to it also suffers corosion due to rainwater.
Sounds also as if you have a bad connectuion to the horn or a faulty horn.

Is the car stolen?

If not, then why has the original alarm system been removed, and if so, how was this done?

at paul c. no not stolen matey atleast i hope not. As to fob well never had one with the car. Does still have the factory fit alarm, and used to work for a while. Now just the hazards flash when alarm is active. it has had a button starter fitted, one to the remote for the starter, and another wire that goes to the fuel stop. Will start without the keys, ingintion switch is used to control all eletrics in the cab. Last owner said it was fitted for wading, so you can kill the eletrics. The hazards only went off once. Everytime it stalled after no hazards on.
@discool
the front wiper does work as it should on intermitent. it goes up and stops, sometimes comes back down on its own. the rear wiper will work most of the time, however on the odd time won't move at all. The headlamp washer didn't work when we first got it, then about a month ago work for one whole day lol. Everything else works as it should.
nicedayforit.
i was on about the multifunction relay that sits next to the fuse box in the engine bay, righthand side behind the battery lol
