Think I snapped my half shaft today as I heard a snap sound and would not drive until I engaged diff lock. Now there is a metal grinding noise on full lock from the front drivers wheel. But seems to drive ok normally. I'm on a camping trip and was planning to so some more lanes tomorrow. What damage could I do of I carry on driving tomorrow until I get home and dismantle to inspect damage?

Humm...so I guess is should cut my laning trip short then. And consider getting recovered by the aa as om about 60 miles from home! Down in sailbury and I'm from oxford. U recon it's worth driving back?

May be best, I'm with a friend so might park up in the nearest village and join my mate for the day on the plains. Then get my landy recovered on the afternoon.

got recovered and it was a good call as just moving it around my drive was making a bad noise and i can now feel resistance in that wheel. will stip down and inspect at the weekend. thanks "jamesmartian" you have been very helpful on many of my posts.

truly battered cv joint. you have to be careful, often they will lock up whilst trying to drive and that can be very ugly.

hope you dont need a new swivel ball!

cheers

ive finally found some tim to strip down and inspect and it is definatly the CV that has failed. but there is also some pretty bad scoreing in the swivel ball so guess this is not so good and will need replacing? also the splines on my half shaft have been scored a bit so may be worth replacing too. do yo think its best to replace the lot?
