Having done over 200 miles of motorway driving in the last 2 days the disco hasn't missed a beat thurs stuck to 65 70 mph today 70 80 mph with a push to 90 (because of a bmw i own the road). Noticed a slight vibration nothing bad but it was there. It did not feel like wheels out bal felt more central. What should i check?? by the way getting just over 30 mpg with the 70 80 mph returning better mpg than 65 70 mph.

Could well be prop shaft bearings are worn. Does it vibrate when the power is applied but not at all when rolling?
If so that's what mine did but mine had worse vibration than yours by the sound of it.
If it is that it is an easy job, but depends how much you want to spend on the prop shaft.

Where my bearings were worn you could see shiny metal round the outside of them.

The first thing I would be checking is the rubber 'doughnut' on the rear propshaft where it connects the prop to the rear diff.

These deteriorate over time so they a cause vibrations - replace with a genuine GKN one (about £30) and you should be ok.

If it still vibrates then you need to check the U/j's on the front prop. To do this properly (sic) you need to undo the front end and remove from the diff - so you can then twist the prop to assess wear in the joints. Replace U/j's and centre bearing as necessary.

Good luck,

Dave

I have EXACTLY the same issue. Between 70 and 75mph it feels like a shudder rather than simple wheel balancing. I tried power on and off and it doesn't seem to make much difference. Will be getting wheels balanced first as this is the least expensive and as she wasn't serviced since 50K I reckon a good place to start.

mine doesn,t stand out like whell balance it's just there its like something is just starting to break down. No one else can notice it but i can "the old man nik named me the mot inspector because i would drive his car and tell him what was wrong with them lol. He only has forty plus years in hgv mot and keeping a fleet of taxi's on the road.
