Just a footnote to this, as there was a reference to yellowed/faded lamp lenses - you can polish them back to clear brilliance.

I did this on my old volvo a few years back with a DA polisher and a couple of goes with progressively finer cutting compound. The headlamps were just a bit hazed but the rears had gone pink and looked very shabby. The result was amazing - all looked like new afterwards, although the manufacturers logo etc had been polished out lol.

I think meguiars do a kit now, hang on I'll try and find a link... Here we go - Buy Meguiar's Meguiar's Headlight Restoration Kit from Meguiar's UK

No excuse for yellowed headlamps with that available

Best thing I did was headlight restoration with 3M kit. Yellow haze gone. Fitted new bulbs too, light is bright and white. Happy days.

Having used both the meguiars and the 3m kit on my Audi the 3m kit is far superior and lasts a lot longer, you can then buy and apply a clear uv lacquer to stop them yellowing over time.

Process is dead simple you use a household drill with the kit to gently sand the cloudy yellow old uv protector off the lights, then buff them and as mentioned above you can then apply a clear uv coating back on if you wish.

BTW just to add more choice to the bulb mix osram have just released the night breaker unlimited which kicks out 110% light and theres a bulb beneath it that claims 120%

Upgraded H4 headlight bulbs. Osram and Extreme White H4 bulbs...

Would be interesting to hear from somebody that has used these bulbs.

Great tips thank you! I'm lucky enough to have a machine buffer, so a light compound pad and polish will do the trick in no time
