I'm completely clueless. Where do I put axle stands? I put them under the axle whilst I loosened (snapped) the bolts but it says put stands on chassis and take axle weight with jack but my stands won't reach anywhere on chassis. :( pics appreciated. As you can see I'm not having a good day.

As long as you only remove damper one at a time the weight of vehicle will keep it on springs and on axle and it shouldn't bounce.

Jack on diff on wood block, axle stands under axle

If the damper won't undo then grind nut off axle end (may be metal cups to watch for)

Also be aware that the chasss end of damper the washers need to be fitted correctly

Axle end the bush should be tightened to stop movement, but not crushed

Cheers. Don't really know what to do about that snapped bolt is that part of the bracket mounted to the chassis with just a nut screwed on?

The snapped part looks like the top mount on the chassis? If this has broken shortening the stud part then it will need to be repaired / replaced as the new damper will not stay on.
Where are you?

I did mine the other day. Never done them before. I used a trolley jack under the rear diff, and also the bottle jack under the axle on the passenger side. Put axle stands under the chassis close to where the rear arms meet it. I was going to do the springs as well, but cos the bolts were rusted to ****e, it took me an hour to get the blooming things undone. Luckily the shock mount didn't snap, the way I had to hang off it to loosen it! What axle stands do you have? Most will extend enough to get under the chassis ok
