Rear self leveling air suspension - The fuse keeps blowing

Hi,
I have a 1999 TD5 ES... back in September had the compressor replaced as defective and we also noticed that whoever had owned the vehicle before had removed the 30amp fuse under the bonnet. Strange we thought, as initially when put back it blew evertime we switched the engine on. Compressor replaced and all hunky dory ..... until recently.
The self levelling light came on and wouldn't go off and noticed the compressor was a bit noisy. I now have same problem as before , compressor has stopped working this could be due yet again to the fuse having blown again. Replaced the fuse, turned engine on and within 15 seconds the fuse blew again.. Don't see any other option now but to go to main dealer for diagnostic, any suggestions as to what could be the cause as suspension nearly at lowest point now and will be unusable very soon until it gets to the dealers which won't be until 5th January..
Any help please...

fit coil spring kit about £100 makes handling better in my opinion and no more faults although you would need to get ecu switched to non air suspension. compressor worn out from previous uncured fault ie leak so running too much ,air bags ,pipes

Do u know when was replaced the air inlet filter(behind the left tail lamp) ?....if it's old it's possible to have some sh*t and moisture in the compressor which can freeze and block the motor....for that reason it blows the fuse.
Disconnect the electrical plug from the compressor, turn ignition on and watch the fuse.....if it doesnt blow then reconnect it and warm up the compressor with a hair dryer(or some other heat blower) before u start up again.

If with the compressor disconnected it still blows the fuse disconnect all connectors from the comressor housing to isolate it....this way u'll see if the problem is there or elsewhere.

Anyway as a crisis solution u can inflate the bags as shown in the indicated thread.

I have the same problem, my compressor was changed in June 2010.

And it looks like mine is freezing up as well, once i have defrosted it with a hair dryer it is fine. I have checked the filter and blown the lines with an air line and there are no signs of any water/ moisture, I even removed the compressor and placed in on a radiator for two hours, all to no avail, once there was a hard frost again it blow the fusable link. I have even lagged it with some loft insulation to see how i get on, but there must be some moisture in it, any ideas how I can check, dry it out

Thanks, have thought about the Coil Spring Kit but I carry Newfoundland Dogs in the back of the car and they move about a lot within the confines of the back, so don't think it is practical for my use. But will not rule out any options..

Don't Know when the air inlet filter etc were changed as have only owned the vehicle since May 2010. I love the vehicle, just need to sort out the inherited problems....
All these problems started when we had the cold/snowy weather. The compressor was running on quite noisily when the engine was turned off, that was the first sign of a possible problem.

If you put in your location in your profile you might have a local member with a Hawkeye or Nanocom that would save you a shed load of money, instead of going to the main stealer.

Check the filter behind the NS rear lights. Mine had got soaking wet and then frozen solid, meaning the pump couldn't suck any air so was stalling and blowing the fusible link.

I've now made a little shroud to stop water getting into it (although TBH I can't see how it got in there in the first place).

...u might as well change the dogs with Yorkshire Terriers as the last option

Water can get to the air filter from the sunroof drain pipe which you should also see behind the rear light cluster. If it's not there it may have broken off and needs replacing, sunroofs can cause alsorts of water issues !!!

I do have a leaky rear sunroof ..
