Rear Hub Issue....

My missus has a 95 300tdi disco, and complained that the brakes were a bit dodgy.

I had a look yesterday and the N/S inner pad has dissapeared! I removed the other pad, managed to put the pistons back, but noticed that the hub now has huge movement in & out, the seal is leaking badly.

It seems whatever holds the shaft/hub in place now isnt, and only the brakes have stopped the whole hub comming off - this i think is what has killed & spat out the inner pad etc.

So...... what can i expect to find when i look further? After a 3 hour battle in the rain reconning my defender (TD) starter motor yesterday i didnt have the energy to look any more!

mmmmm lock nuts i guess by the amount of movement, is it possible for them to come right off or strip the thread?

Yes it is, but it's more likely to be shagged bearings.

Time to order a bearing kit! (comes with seals and washers etc)

Hopefully the inner races won't be seized on the stub axle. Easy job otherwise.
