Thanks mate, ill check that on my bosses trailer tomorrow, ive just sold my trailer and never had it on the bloody car ,again thanks,so if trailer socket is ok,itll be the switch then, yeah!

Ingnition and lights are required. The switch has an orange illuminator / warning light does it not?

You could try other switches off the panel provided you understand what contacts are made/broken on the switch.

Hi mate, there is a fog lamp relay it's in the passenger footwell this is operated by the main light switch, theres a group of them that drop down by the heater motor, if memory serves it's the second one in.

With the main lights turned on the relay should provide a live feed to pin 1 on the rear fog lamp switch then when the switch is operated this provides a live out to pin 4 directly to the fog lamps (rear).

With the lights on if you have not got a live at pin 1 of the fog light switch check 20A fuse 2 in the engine comp fuse box, if you have a live there then check pin 87 at the fog lamp relay if you have a live there bridge (with a fused wire) to pin 30 if everything starts working it's the relay (if you can hear it clicking when the main lights are switched on) then you should have a live at pin 1 of the switch if you do check pin 4 and if thats not live it's the switch or the earth to the switch, if it is it's the rear bulbs or wiring to them!
Hope that helps!
P.S. mine turned out to be the switch!

OOps thats for the defender

Hopefully I may still be right that it's not on the main circuit diagram but on a seperate page with five other mini circuit diagrams

cigar lighter
power wash system
rear wash wipe system
heated rear window
fuel tank and pumps
dim dip circuit ( is the one you want) :D

very much appreciate all your input guys, ill check out everything you have all mentioned,by the way i checked the trailer sockets on my bosses trailer today, werent working properly!...

thanks again..DAZ

ok,ive checked pin 4,no live, only one on plug that is live is pin 2,fuse in engine bay(20amp)is fine, checked relay, found the correct one but the wires dont correspond to the colours in the manual, also there are two plugs with no relay or anything attached, would threr be any adverse effects if i plugged the two loose plugs into said relay?would it be easier just to fit two universal fog lights that bolt onto the rear bumper?

What year is your Disco mate?

Hi Daz,
Quick bit of research, things changed in 1997!
Still pretty much the same except LR introduced a control unit between the fog lamp switch and the relay and that is now earth switched by the fog lamp switch so pin configuration as follows!
If you bridge pins 30 and 87 on the relay it should light the fog lamps regardless of weather the main lights are on or not!
The fuse has changed location too and is now in the facia fuse box and a 10A number 9 and is permanent live.
To help to locate the correct relay the wire colours are:-
30-Red and Yellow
87 and 86-Blue and red
85-Black
Pins 87 and 86 are joined together further up the loom and are fed by fuse 9 as above.
The fog lamp switch now earths the lamp control unit so you won't find a live at pin 1, the only live at the switch will be for the two bulbs in it.
Rather than rambling on, try that and get back to me if it don't work !!
