rear crossmember (body)

Having patched up rear crossmember yet again, not much of original left now!!!!!!!!. I am contemplating replacing it with some box section and making my own mounting brakets.did this with sills ,well solid has anyone already done this ? if so what size box etc. or have you tried and decided its a non starter of a job.I have welders and can get variouse box steel,suppose just looking to see if its been done.

Most people do it when cutting down to bobtail the Disco .. there are a couple of threads about bob-tailing that are current on here, but I can't recall anything specific about the cross member.

Seriously thought about it for mine, but when I looked it was only the two rear body mounts that were rusted, my cross member was sound! Otherwise I'd have used similar tube to my sills/rocksliders .. 100 x 60 x 4ish .. as I still have a small bit left, just about the right size for it in fact!!
