probably input seal ,can be done by competent diy ,but would do other seal as they come iin kit and is easier to remove input shaft, which needs sector shaft removing first

I just fitted three pas boxes in my disco in two months! If and only if you decide to fit another box, get a brand new one from Adwest, believe me, the recon ones both lasted a couple of weeks and failed. I should have listened to the advice I was given on here and gone straight for new.

That does look like input shaft seal gone, but I would wipe it all down and re-check as when my output seal was leaking, I found splashes of fluid all the way unto the brake servo!

thanks MR Dave..ok i will try to recheck again...but im not sure which is input shaft ..im gonna try 2 find a new seal for it on the net..but dunno whats the exact name and part num for it ?...

Sorry, cant give part no.s as i dont know them. The input shaft is the small one that connects to the steering column through the universal joints. The output or 'sector' shaft is the big one at the bottom that carries the drop-arm, this one is usually covered in oil from the leaky seals ;)

Dave

Thanks Dave..so looking at the pics..i reckon that the oil coming from output shaft(sector) rather than the input shaft rite?...correct me if im wrong...

STC1041 sea kit for input shaft but would really need sector shaft removing to fit ,full kit stc2847 ,worth a look if you dont want to spend but daves way is the most certain , both shafts must be leaking as top under input is wet

In your situation, i would throw in a new box, i have read very few threads where a seal kit lasted more that 6 months, many less than that. Its gonna hurt the wallet, but a new box is a pleasure to drive with :)

AFIK, the reason a seal kit won't last is the same reason many recon boxes don't last - the new seals rub on the worn part of the shaft and as soon a they settle in, the leaks start. Very few recon houses will fit new sector shafts or build-up and remachine the worn shafts back to new condition, some you win some you lose.

thanks all for the kind responses...i would prefer new box but its gonna be expensive..n heavy stuff plus shipping to my place in Asia..its gonna burn not my wallet but my bank acc as well...so maybe im gonna change the seal kit first..n c how long it stands ...thanks a lot mates..cheers :)

tthe only reason seal kits may fail on lower seal sector shaft seal is hat some times groove is worn thus shortening life of new seal ,you can get sleeves that locktite on for shafts for this purpose have a google ,also sometimes perfect shaft will be as good as new ,sometimes seal when fitted along with steel washer theres enough room under circlip to hot seal with suitable washer further up in box and on shaft out of wear,if you do it your self and need advice pm me ive rebuilt alot
