Hello

Advice & Guidance please...here's the symptoms:

About 2 weeks ago I noticed an oil leak coming from my S Reg 300TDi Disco. At first glance the leak seemed to be a minor drip, and I made a mental note to check it out once the wetaher had warmed up.

This weekend I decided to investigate further as the leak now appeared to be a major drip.

It seems that the engine has leaked about a gallon of oil in about 4 weeks, with average mileage of 350 miles per week. This last week I guess its leaked most.

At first I thought it was coming from the Vacuum pump as there seemed to be plenty of fresh oil underneath the pump. Further inspection revealed that the hose coming from the rocker cover to the engine block (just by the throttle) was loose, and also appeared to have fresh oil close by.

Then I discovered that I had another oil leak, with oil just behind where the dipstick is (underneath the pipe that runs down the top of the engine).

My next step is to cover with engine gunk & degreaser, and jet wash off all the oil & crud from the engine, and take it for a run about to try and find out just where the leaks are coming from. (Ihave dropped a gallon of oil in, just in case you thought I hadn't,,,and I'm in The AA,,,,just in case!)

However, I have my suspicions that the engine is breathing, or suffering from crank case compression due to a head gasket failure. (Blowing cylinder head to oil way).

I hope I am wrong in thinking head gasket (and just before Christmas to boot) but can you guys suggest anything else I should look at / do ?

If it is Head Gasket, how long have I got before it goes completely....and if I do head gasket replacement, will I need to get the head skimmed / replaced ?

All answers appreciated !!!!

Thanks

I carried out the EGR modification about 9 months ago, and since then about 15,000 miles with no problems. Oil & Oil filters regularly changed every 6 - 7,000 miles. Not over filled.

I'll check the turbo tomorrow, that is something I missed. Anything else I should check ?

Cheers

Hi,
If you have any oil on top of the rocker box, chances are it's your turbo, if it is get it done straight away your enging could start running on the engine oil and theres no way of stopping it,(only to try and stall it)
Good luck.
