Hi everyone some help with the fuel system if someone knows the answer???

Ive got a 1995 discovery 300tdi auto about a week ago when i started it from cold it got a couple of miles from home and decided that it wasn't going to rev past 2500 rpm meaning that it wouldnt change up and did abbout 20 mph, and would not even make it up the hill to my house.

I thought fuel starvation so chenged the filter, the lift pump and the fuel filter housing, only coz i threaded the bleed screw.

got it all back together and still the problem exists, idles at about 600rpm really lumpy will not rev and when you do rev it ots really lazy up to about 2500 rpm then thats all it will give. Have looked att the sedimenter thinking that may be blocked but I can undo the bolt on the top but cannot withdraw thhe sedimenter.

Running out of ideas now and have resorted to crying and swearing, does this sound like a bockage, or is it leaking air, or has something else died that i cannot find etc. Any help would be great

thanks

gareth

sedimenter may take a bit of tapping with a soft hammer to get it off once bolt is removed, i would get an air line and blow down the fuel line back to the tank to make sure its clear

was checking if the lines were blocked earlier and took the line of at the sender in the boot and off at the fuel fiilter housing under the bonnet and with a bit of lung power was able to push some diesel through the line will find a soft hammer and give that a go aswell though

cheers for this as alll help is much appreciated

Also the haynes manual says the sedimenter is to stop the fuel filter clogging up to quick, is it worth bypassing it with a bit of fuel line??

yeh we had the same thing on a 300 and after changing everything we blew all the fuel lines back to the tank and found a load of gunk ine the line no probs since, dont use mouth power lol, use a tyre compressor...

your lift pump could be full of crap. try taking the pipe of the fuel filter housing (the one on the top that goes to the injector pump) and run some fresh fuel from a container. if it runs fine like this then try the pipe after the sedimenter, doing the same thing with fresh fuel. i had the same problems as you and i found it to be the lift pump clogged up

Try running it without the fuel filler cap as well, see if it makes a difference. Sometimes the vents in the cap go faulty and it can cause fuelling prolems.
The other thing is crap being sucked up into the pickup pipe in the tank. make sure you blow the line from the sedimenter back into the tank.

Can be a pain in the arse when that happens, i had to drain a full tank of dodgy bio that clotted in the problem. luckly the lift pump took the damage before it could get to the injector pump

Check wastegate aint stuck - that magic 2500 rpm wall might be a clue, also MAF sensor is a common fail on TD5 not sure re 300's

i think its to old for a MAF sensor, maybe a MAP sensor but i havent come across these on a 300 (i maybe looking in the wrong place though)

First time this occured on my TD5 it was the wastegate regulator, the electrical signal out to the ECU was cutting the power. Next time it was a split in the intercooler hose. Hope that gives you a clue.

with all the snow, xmas, too much work, and waiting for another fuel filter housing (over-tightened that one as well) I have only just had a couple of hours to sort the dsco.

A quick tap wth a hammer and the sedimentor came free and an almighty load of crap and gunk came with it. A good clean later and she fired up first time and runs better than before!!

Might not let it get that low on fuel next time. Anyway a big, big thankyou to all those who helped and gave me some pointers. Without it I would still be scratching my head not knowing what the bloody hell I am doing.

Thanks Loads

Gareth
