Please don't take this the wrong way, but you did follow the refill procedure correctly didn't you?

First get your assistant seated in the car.

1. First put in as much oil as you can (usually about 1.5 to 2ltrs);

2. Then get your assistant, with foot firmly on footbrake, to start the engine, cycle through each box position pausing a couple of seconds for the box to take up drive;

3. Whilst they do that, you keep on filling as fast as you can until, they finish cycling through the box and go back to P and you finish topping up until it starts to overflow the level/fill hole.

Cheers
Dave

I'm sure someone will correctly if I'm wrong, but I didn't think you used wading plugs on a D2, didn't think they were necessary?

You don't think the smell is as a result of some spilt oil on the exhaust do you? The reason I ask is that if your symptoms were solely the overheat light coming on - well that's often caused by a faulty sensor. But with the smell as well I'm not so sure.

Have you checked the box oil level since, to since if all the oil is still in there? Might be worth a look?

ok im not 100% sure but there was a hole in the gearbox underside with a thread on it that a wading plug fits in and it looks like where a wading plug should go so i put it in??

and it has had a new gearbox temp sensor recently.

Ok so if it has the right quantity and quality of oil in, a new sensor installed the only other thing I can think of is the autobox filter screen - did you replace that?

Sorry - had to check re oil type - the R380 box is usually reliable so overheating is very unusual.

Another thought - the automatic box has an oil cooler which has in integral pump. If this has stopped working then it could perhaps explain the problem. Probably need to test to see if oil is circulating around the cooler under the radiator.

Hope this helps.

just been out to the car went to pull of the drive nothing happened tryed a bit harder and about a litre of oil spat out on the front passenger side. im assuming this is the auto cooler pipe that is fooked?

ok just got two oredered for tommorow there made by britpart but are apparently to oem spec? £111-00
