Just replaced the heater matrix with little but a couple of screwdrivers, some spanners and the haynes manual.

I will never, never do this job again. Think I would rather pay someone else or get cold instead.

For anyone trying it, it is a really simple job just extremely timeconsuming. It's a two day job for an amateur mechanic such as myself.... The Haynes manual is pretty good to follow even though it keeps refering to other chapters all the time.

The only positive is the satisfaction in having heat in the car again!

did you have to take the whole dashboard out? or just the centre bit where the vents are?

a mate lost the heating and fans after going through **** loads of water, but we have been putting off doing the job, but will have to be done at some point...

I took the whole dash out. I've seen threads here that suggest you can do this without removing the dash but it requires some cutting to access the Matrix.

So, I did it the long way... Everything does come apart okay (well did on my '97) and the colour coding etc on the wiring make that particular task much easier.

On the 200Tdi you need to remove the whole dash, but on the 300Tdi I think you can remove less?
