Hello all, im looking to change my transmission fluid on my disco 95 300tdi manual.

I have the fluid just not to confident on taking the old stuff out and putting the new stuff in.. does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

Easy just undo the drain plug at the bottom of the sump and then replace with Dexron lll spec fluid at the same amount as drained via the dipstick tube.
Remember that half the amount of the gearbox fluid is retained by the torque converter so to the maximum fluid replacement you will have to drain and replace again after a 100 miles or so. Always check the level is correct but the dipstick.

Have u thought about changing the filter as well?

Yes, thanks.

1) find drain plug
2) find filler plug
3) slacken filler plug
4) put container (of sufficient size to hold contents of gearbox) under drain plug.
5) remove drain plug
6) have breakfast and cup of refreshment.
7) check oil us still not draining out.
8) have 11ziz.
9) repeat 7&8 until no oil draining.
10) remove filter and check/ clean.
11) remove container from under gearbox
12) replace filter and drain plug
13) tighten free and drain plug to correct settings
14) remove filler plug completely
15) try, using specialist equipment with long nozzle (garden sprayer or oil can), fill gearbox with MTF.
16) realise you haven't got specialist equipment specified in 15)
17) make specialist filling equipment
18) try again to fill gearbox with MTF
19) after 18). Tighten filler plug to correct torque.
20) clean up mess from oil that has missed container on drive.

Pre-requisites
Vehicle on flat hard surface

Bit difficult on a manual????

Oops - forgot 2a)
Realise yu haven't got a 55mm torx socket bit and rush to Halfrauds to buy the last one or alternatively find they haven't got one and pack tools away till next weekend.

Well thanks guys, quick response too..

I will have a look,

It sounds a bit scary...

Yeah its a 36mm socket for the drain plug too isn't it? If not then 32mm. Basically, buy a viscous fan spanner (which has 32mm and 36mm) and you can use this too, for the drain plug on the R380 transmission.

Not wanting to open a can of worms but....what fluid are you planning to put in it?
