morning,

to cut a long story short Ive just had a new gearbox fitted after the last one got destroyed and i now need a new oil cooler,

just wondering is there any difference between the 4.0 v8 oil cooler and the td5 oil cooler because i can get a o.e.m oil cooler for the v8 for 40 pounds her : DISCOVERY 2 GEARBOX OIL COOLER 4.0 V8 PETROL *NEW OEM* | eBay UK

but a td5 oil cooler not even o.e.m is 150 pounds from here:

LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 AUTO GEARBOX OIL COOLER TO`03 | eBay UK

but from what i can see there identical? does anybody know if theres a difference?

thanks again!

Just to look at this in perspective:

1. They both use the same autobox &

2. It's just an oil cooler/radiator when all is said and done.

I would be inclined to try the cheap one myself. It's not an LR one so you might have to slightly modify it's locating lugs but that's no biggy.

It says that it is OEM but that doesn't necessarily mean it is the manufacturer of this part, it only means this manufacturer makes something that LR uses.

I would risk it.

I would also install it before using the car, as any debris in the old oil cooler could muck up your new 'box.

ok well ive just spoke to someone whos selling one and hes told me that the only difference is, is that the td5 has a screw in temperature sensor and the v8 doesnt have a temperature sensor?

does this sound right? or is he just fobbing me off to make me buy the v8 one?

He's fobbing you off. The oil cooler for the pre 3A******v8 is PFZ100010 and the oil cooler switch is UBI100030. Pre 2A**** is ESR3592

There should be a lead coming off the oil cooler to plug into the oil temp switch.

I've got a picture of this on the other laptop from Microcat, but I have no means of copying it over onto this machine to show you.

The part no he is quoting is for a late model D2 v8 4.0ltr with a VIN starting 3A******
