Evening guys and gals. OK so my 300 tdi, auto with snorkel has started making a new noise. I was towing a trailer today and noticed that on acceleration I am getting a blowing/sucking noise coming from the passenger side almost sounds like the foot well area!. I opened the windows and it is certainly from n/s of the vehicle.
I don't have any extra smoke or oil leaks.
Any ideas,is it my turbo?

Regards
Terry.

Is it the snorkel, blocked air intake or filter? Have you checked all the turbo hoses and connections and the big airpipe from air filter to engine, all these things are passenger side

Reckon he is about right ^^^^^^^^^^^^^! :)

Check the simple things that often fail, like rubber hoses and air filters, before going into a panic about the turbo.

I did open the air box thinking it may be something to with snorkel,it did appear to quieten it down from the front of the car with bonnet up, but it didn't make much difference when I took it out for a run!.
I had a quick look at the pipes but it was getting dark.

Thanks for the advice guys, it was the inlet pipe to the turbo.Had a big split in it,off later to get a new one.

regards

Terry

What haigy said .. It blows regularly near the bulkhead, mine also had a snapped exhaust manifold stud. Well worth checking out .. :)

Can anybody tell the name of the pipe that goes from the air box to the turbo inlet please or a part number would be helpful. I have found a breaker that has one for £25 ,might just be me being proper tight but sounded a bit steep. Can't find the new part on island 4x4 to ascertain if it is a good price or not?.

No idea about the number, never had a Tdi myself. But if it is just a rubber pipe I would think 25 quid second hand is a bit steep.

Rimmer, paddock motors, and John Craddock all have quite helpful websites. Get the part number of one, and search it on the others for prices/specs.

OK so the old Disco keeps giving me more challenges, after changing turbo hose and putting on a new surpentine belt I still had the blow/sucking noise. Turned out to be the intercooler hose had a split. Off with the turbo hose, out with the intercooler for a de gunk, off with the inlet manifold for a wash and all relevant hoses. Put everything back together with new intercooler hose. Job done. The Mrs took it out today..,....it chewed the serpentine belt again. After striping the belt off I found that the power steering pulley moves in and out of the pump a few inches, so question now is, I am guessing I need a new pump but can I use the old pulley wheel or do I need a new one as it would appear they are separate parts????
I blame this all on the fact that I have just booked it in for its mot,not had to touch it for the last 12 months.

So changed psp and now have a squeaking coming from one of the pulley's.
Is this a normal thing that land rover has designed in to this model just to make me spit feathers??
