hi i just joined your forum and introduced my self on the introductions board.

i have just bought a cheap 1993/1994 mpi disco and i have a few issues with it

before anyone says it i know the best thing to do is put a V8 or 200tdi etc in it, if i had the money for one i would have got one :)

the first problem that i hope your experienced minds can help with is that after the engine is warm it idles rough then stalls,it also stalled yesterday when i diped the clutch going down hill then again at low revs when pulling into our drive.

i removed the air filter (the last owner appers to have put a new one in there)to make sure it was breathing.

it seems to run fine under load so i assume the its getting fuel.

today im off to get new plugs and leads but any other options would be very welcome.

thanks all

Dunno anything about these engines. Do they have a MAF/MAP sensor? Other things to check would be fuel filter and fuel pump.

i took it for a test drive and all seemed ok then i drove it home over 100 miles all ok.then the next day it started! i have just taken it to a friend who also has a disco and he noticed that even though the engine is smooth whilst driving the rev counter jerks up and down abit this seems to happen intemitently (sorry about the spelling).im gonna get it tested tomorrow as i have no idea how to test it myself.thanks for your quick responce.

on a second note i expected the mpi to be gutless well compared to my 2.0 pinto transit it seems like a sports car LOL

May be a completely different issue here. But i used to have a corsa that did EXACTLY the same thing.

On the corsa it was the throttle position sensor. If this engine has one of those, have a look. The change in temperature could be making a connection intermittent.

the jerky alternater could well be on the way out - mine did the same before it seized and died.
as for the other issues - no idea

Mpi suffered from three problems
One sticking valves
Two head gaskets
Three very weak clutches

thanks for the ideas.im gonna do a full service and chuck a new alternator on and see how that goes.

thanks all :) :)

Just to update.I put a new alternator on and gave it a service and all is well all the problems are sorted thanks to all for the input. Cheers :)

If (when) you decide to change the engine to a tdi or v8 give me a shout, if the engine is ok I will give you a fair price for it. I want it for an mgb
